My Journey as Architect & Interior Designer

Before transitioning into UX, I worked in architecture and interior design. This experience shaped my ability to organize complexity, balance function with aesthetics, and communicate ideas visually. Here’s a glimpse into that journey.

Timeline

Education in Architecture

  • Bachelor’s / 2007-2012 (India)

  • Master’s / 2016-2016 (Germany)

Professional Architecture Experiences in Germany

  • RKW Architektur GmbH, Münster / 2016-2017

  • AHW Ingenieure GmbH, Münster / 2018-2020

Professional Interior Design Experience in Germany

  • Freelance, Studio Thinnai / 2022-2024

Selected Projects

Aurelia - Deep Sea Research Station

Summer Semester 2015, Studio Project

  • Designed autonomous drones and the research station for deep-sea climate research, applying collective intelligence for distributed sensing.

  • Explored growth patterns and clustering through digital simulations and physical experiments.

  • Translated adaptive behaviors of deep-sea organisms into engineered design strategies.

  • Built context-aware computational models responsive to environmental constraints like pressure and energy, using an iterative workflow of testing and refinement.

  • Awarded “Best Project of the Year.”

  • Proficient in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and Framer.

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles.

  • Ability to conduct comprehensive user research and usability testing.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

The Float Project

Winter Semester 2014, Studio Project

  • Explored self-organization principles to imagine future sea-based cities in Amsterdam Area.

  • Used Processing 2.0 simulations alongside physical experiments to test growth patterns.

  • Early master’s project that combined computational design and urban speculation.

  • Proficient in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and Framer.

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles.

  • Ability to conduct comprehensive user research and usability testing.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

EXO - Weaving in Architecture

Summer Semester 2016, Master Thesis Project

  • Experimentation with fabric form-finding using tension and compression to explore structural possibilities.

  • The investigations then applied to a flood-rescue context, resulting in compact, low-cost pods that function as both transport and temporary shelter.

  • The forms were tested through structural analysis software, and the most optimized design was developed further.

  • Proficient in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and Framer.

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles.

  • Ability to conduct comprehensive user research and usability testing.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

RICA

Winter Semester 2015, Elective project

  • Rica is a 3D printed wearable custom jewellery that arises out of a generative design.

  • This product is a predecessor to my interest in generative 3D printed product designs.

  • Number of sunny days in a certain duration were collected as data. Values then fed in to generate perlin force waves around the face to form a veil for protection from sun.

  • Proficient in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and Framer.

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles.

  • Ability to conduct comprehensive user research and usability testing.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Geier's Nest, Bridge in Austria

Employment at AHW Ingenieure GmbH / 2018-2020

  • Explored bridge concepts inspired by Geierwally and eagle nests, embracing chaotic forms rooted in nature’s logic.

  • Used bionic optimization to refine tangled structures, adapting nest-like geometry for structural efficiency.

  • Achieved a unified, expressive design that frames dramatic valley views and offers adventurous crossing.

Interior Design Project - Highlights

Home Styling & Consulting at Studio Thinnai / 2022 - 2024

  • Joined Studio Thinnai, a 2-person interior design studio operating in the Netherlands and Germany, specializing in styling solutions for expats.

  • Lead designer for all Germany-based projects, delivering mood boards, drawings, and curated shopping lists tailored to client budgets.

  • Provide personalized consultations, including in-person sessions in Munich, with a focus on practical, budget-conscious, and culturally sensitive design solutions.
